Into the Bush - Australian Bush Poem for Funerals

The Australian bush is a place of profound beauty and serenity. Its vast landscapes and timeless presence offer a sense of peace, and for many, it becomes a place of reflection when a loved one passes.
In this poem, we celebrate the enduring connection between the land and those we’ve lost, offering comfort in the idea that life, like the bush, continues to grow and evolve even after the loss of a loved one.
Into the Bush
Beneath the southern skies so wide,
Where red earth stretches far and wide,
The gum trees stand, tall and strong,
Their whispering leaves hum a gentle song.
The sun sets low, the day does end,
But in the bush, there's no final bend.
For those who’ve passed, their spirit remains,
In the rustle of leaves, in the soft, steady rains.
The kangaroo bounds, the emu glides,
And the wind through the branches softly sighs.
The soul, like the bush, will forever grow,
In quiet peace, it will always flow.
So let us not weep, but quietly trust,
For we all return to the earth, as we must.
In the heart of the land, we’ll find our rest,
Where the sky meets the earth, and we are blessed.

This poem honours the enduring bond between the Australian landscape and the spirits of those who have passed. It reminds us that, like the ever-growing bush, our loved ones remain part of the world around us, forever intertwined with the land they cherished. Through the symbolism of nature—gum trees, kangaroos, and the quiet hum of the wind—we find solace in the knowledge that the soul, like the bush, will always flow and grow.
Losing a loved one is never easy, and finding the right words to express the depth of our feelings can feel overwhelming. May this poem offer some comfort, reminding you that the love and memories you hold will forever be part of the land and the life you shared. In times of grief, may we all find peace in knowing that our loved ones continue to surround us, living on in the beauty of nature and in our hearts.
